The photography contest that asks you to sum up literacy in a single click is back with new and improved features. Literacy Clicks, which had its inaugural year in 2009, is looking to get more of our community involved in its second time around. How, you ask? By going bigger, better and bolder.
Bigger
This year the contest boasts a $1200 total in cash prizes and is now open to anyone in the tri-county area (Middlesex, Oxford and Elgin counties).
Better
Have you seen the new ads in London and Woodstock? If that hasn’t caught your eye, then perhaps a gallery event for the contest’s finalists at the Grand Theatre will do the trick.
Bolder
While last year’s contest asked participants “What does literacy look like to you?”, this year the contest coordinators wanted to go deeper into the heart of literacy and “expose” its impact on our daily lives. The result? 2 contest categories:
Literacy Working for You – How does literacy help you accomplish something?
Literacy Connecting You – How do you stay connected with someone using literacy?
The contest’s website, developed by London’s own Echidna solutions, went live on September 8th (International Literacy Day) and already has entries pouring in. You can always find more information about the contest by visiting its website or facebook page.
With the deadline 3 months away (December 31 2010), will you be one of the finalists? I know I’ve already dusted off my camera lens and will be out looking for inspiration!

[Update]
The Literacy Clicks gallery event took place on Family Literacy Day (January 27th) and saw the unveiling of the contest’s winners. 20 finalists were on display at the Grand Theatre to celebrate literacy in our community but ultimately only 2 creative participants walked away as the grand winners. For a full collection of the winners and the runner ups, visit the Literacy Clicks website.
